Oh…I have a Blog? Oops…
Hey! So… evidently I am terrible at keeping this blog up to date. I was so excited to have a website finally up and running but as soon as I couldn’t get it updated exactly as I wanted, I bailed and stopped blogging, thinking I’d come back around as soon as my brother finished it. Well, that’s a lame excuse. I’m so sorry to have abandoned you. Maria is here. You can sleep easier now.
I thought about writing in here from time to time over the past few months but always second guessed what anyone would care to read about. But no more second guessing- I’m going to talk about my randomness in New York and you can read or go back to stalking facebook or whatever suits you.
My life since the new year as consisted mainly of trying to find a decent job. If you read previous posts you will recall I was laid off from my serving job at the Plaza Hotel on Dec 31. (Yeah. Happy New Year.) So there went all my blogging time! (Still not buying the excuses? Me neither.) Anyway, I have been bouncing from serving job to catering job to any other dehumanizing restaurant industry job I could find. Currently I’m a cocktail waitress in a ‘swanky’ new restaurant but I know that I did not get a business degree for nothing…. I’m already sick of it and am trying to apply for administrative (or something!) jobs within the music/entertainment industry. At least that way I will feel a part of something that I am actually passionate about. I have an interview this week for a new job so cross your fingers!
In other news, I have still been going to auditions though not as frequently. I auditioned for the new production of RENT which is coming to off-broadway (too soon?). It was an open call which meant it was SWARMING with people. It was on a Friday, the day after St. Patrick’s Day. (You see where I’m going with this…) BUT I was determined to be in line as early as possible. People were going to be camping out- why not me too? So yes, maybe I was out a bit during the day on Thursday…into a bit of the evening, but I am pleased to report that I ran home, threw my clothes, book, and snacks in a duffle bag, grabbed a chair from my kitchen (did I mention I’d been out for st. patty’s?) and ran back out the door at 11pm to New World Stages where the audition would be held the next morning. There I slept (passed out?) on the cold concrete stairs to the venue until early the next morning where I ran to a friend’s to change and rally for the audition.
Blah Blah, long story short- I ended up getting a callback which happened immediately after the first audition. Callback went well. But as per usual… nothing further (yet!).
Another callback story: I may not be at liberty to discuss/post so I will let you fill in the blanks. There is a new American Idol-type show coming from the UK to the states…. X-cuse me but I may not Factor the name into this blog just to be safe… but I waited all night for 3 days to audition, received a callback out of thousands of people… but then did not make it past the callback. I think they are looking for off-the-wall looking people. For once, it’s annoying to look normal?
Anyway, whoa, I rambled. Guess that’s what happens when I don’t blog for a long time. Maybe I should do it more often so I don’t exhaust you all at once. So off I go to work in the cocktail lounge. If you happen by 26th n Park, come say hi…
